2) Hello Zubs, This is Firdosh Tolat from Mumbai. Nusserwanji & Alamai Madon (of Madon Colony, Bhusaval) were our neighbours in Fort, Bombay. Nusserwanji was very fond of me and used to call me as his GRANDSON. Homi Uncle left India somewhere in 1950s for further studies in London. There he met Betty and they had 2 sons – Neville and Rustom. Their Navjote was done sometime in the late 1960s. Nusserwanji expired somewhere around in 1970 and that was the first time that Homi Uncle visited India after several years. Thereafter he kept in touch with us for his mother. Alamai expired in mid 1980s. Betty expired in 1990s. After that Homi Uncle married Patricia, who was also recently widowed and a very close friend of Betty & Homi. They visited us in 1999. Homi Uncle expired sometime later. Patricia continues to keep in touch with us. She resides in Harpenden, England, UK. She last visited India in February 2015, with her son David Katan. Behramji’s wife Aloo used to reside in Canada. She would also have crossed the mortal bridge by now. One of Nusserwanji’s brothers (don’t know which one) had a daughter Soonu who was married to a Doctor and who stayed opposite the Petit Sanatorium, on August Kranti Marg, Kemps Corner. I think name of the building was White Hall. Soonu expired sometime in the 1990s and we do not have any contacts with the family. I am looking for the descendants of Soonamai Madon (nee Mistry). I do not know her husband’s name. They both must have passed away in the 1930s. They had 3 sons – Nusserwanrji, Jamshedji and Behramji Madon. Nusserwanji married Alamai and had a son Homi Madon, who married a Christian lady named Betty. Jamshedji married, and had 2 kids – a girl, Gool and a boy. Behramji married Aloo Merchant and had a daughter, Gool. I think they may have been from Ahmedabad or Allahbhad. I follow The Missing Parsi link and read with interest all the cases, solved and unsolved. Here I came across your request for information on the Sports Culture within our community and remembered that among my father’s books there was 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬, 𝐛𝐲 𝐇. 𝐃. 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐚 (1935). I have enclosed a scanned copy of its front cover for your information and search for the book in India. Unfortunately the book with me contacted moisture and quite a few of its pages have been glued together. However, I have still retained it and only an expert restorer might be able to separate the pages of this historical book. But I have not been able to find one here. On another note, there exists a 𝐂𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐣𝐞𝐞 (unsure if that is the right spelling) 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢 and it was built pre-partition. I had been directed to Mr Yazdi Tantra by someone who I interviewed for the project. Let me also take a moment to introduce myself. I am working in the History Department of the SNDT College and am working on a project for the K.R. Cama Oriental Institute on Parsi Physical Culture Clubs in Bombay. I am looking at 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐢 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, strong men, athletes and wrestlers as well as some of the institutions that they had founded in the early twentieth century. I am particularly interested in the career of 1) 𝐓𝐞𝐡𝐦𝐬𝐚𝐩 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐢 (who also founded a physical culture home which was certainly functional upto 1949) 2) 𝐁𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐢 𝐆𝐚𝐳𝐝𝐚𝐫 (b. 1876) who founded the Guzder Health Home. [References to both these men are found in Darukhanawala Parsis and Sports]. The only thing I have been able to trace is a picture of Gazdar from Darukhanawala (Parsi Lustre Vol 1). 3) 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 who ran the Mistry Physical Culture Institute in Bandra. I have had some success on Mr. Sarkari but none at all on Gazdar and Mistry. However I haven’t been able to track the exact location of Gazdar’s Health Home or even find any information about these remarkable men despite my scouring of archival material both in Gujarati and in English. I’m also interested in the history of the Marker’s Health Home and have spoken to some old timers and got some information. I have also had some success with the Petit Gymnastic Institute on which there is much material in the State Archives and newspapers. So broadly I am looking at recovering the histories of Parsi physical culturists and institutions, which have not been documented in detail in the existing community histories.
